China has successfully mastered mechanical sealing technology for nuclear-grade pumps

       According to the China Machinery Industry Federation, recently, the mechanical seal prototype for the second and third pumps of the pressurized water reactor nuclear power plant, jointly developed by Sichuan Nichiji Sealing Parts Co., Ltd. and the China Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute, passed the appraisal. Not only did it fill a domestic gap, but it also reached an advanced international level. It is expected that by 2012, a complete nuclear power mechanical seal technology with independent intellectual property rights, including main pump mechanical seals, will be formed, which will play a positive role in accelerating nuclear power construction, improving the energy structure, and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction in China. Since seals are consumables, based on the total installed capacity of nuclear power built or under construction in China exceeding 100 million kilowatts by 2020, the total sealing market size will exceed 200 billion yuan.
